The Innocence Mission: FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is The Innocence Mission?
The Innocence Mission is a nonprofit dedicated to the eradication of child sexual abuse (CSA). We work towards this goal through our revolutionary flagship program A Day to Make a Difference, an educational and advocacy training program that educates parents, survivors, communities and influencers about child sexual abuse, its prevalence, effects and how to spot, stop and prevent CSA, including human trafficking.
No other organization is taking CSA advocacy, education and prevention directly to the citizens of California in this kind of accessible and interactive format.
What exactly is A Day to Make a Difference (DTMAD)?
It is a dynamic educational and advocacy program that educates parents, survivors, and community members about the prevalence and effects of CSA, as well as how to spot, stop and prevent it. Most importantly, DTMAD empowers people to tell their story and speak openly about CSA, so that it is no longer a subject shrouded in shame and silence.
Through speakers, interactive workshops and our Toolkit, attendees leave with tangible skills they can implement in their own communities to IMMEDIATELY protect kids, refer people to the appropriate resources, learn the signs of abuse and know what to do if a victim comes forward to them.
We measure our success by the number of people and organizations we can positively affect through this program. Why? Because it is only through education, awareness, advocacy, action and open discussion that we can eradicate CSA.
How is DTMAD funded?
DTMAD is funded through fundraising events and individual donors. We host an annual World of Wonderment gala, where we honor national leaders in the field of child safety, advocacy and imagination. Past winners have included Jack Lindquist, the former president of Disneyland. One of this year’s honorees is veteran newsman Dan Rather.
We also host wine tastings, poker tournaments, golf tournaments and other fundraisers. All of our branded events strongly promote the message of The Innocence Mission, and are a valuable tool in raising awareness for our mission.
In addition, we encourage our supporters to host Friendraisers, small gatherings where a spokesman from TIM will discuss our mission with attendees. While not expressively a fundraiser, these events are instrumental to raising our volunteer and donor base.
How will the DTMAD program grow?
We intend to grow DTMAD into a multifaceted program as our resources expand. Within the next year, we intend to have a child-focused program, developed by experts in child psychology, which will help children empower themselves against predators. Other plans include a focus on human trafficking, survivor advocate training, and educator training.
How can I host or attend one?
Please check the TIM website for upcoming dates. We hope to execute ten DTMAD in the next year, hosted through schools, churches, community groups and nonprofits. If you do not see a date near you, we encourage you to speak to your local church, school, nonprofit, or community center to host one.
